What We're Reading: Darling Girls

'Darling Girls' by Sally Hepworth is another great find among our library shelves. What a page turner this dark suspense novel is!! It is filled with mystery, thrilling psychological drama, and sprinkled with just the right amount of humor. Dare I say “better” than a Freida McFadden novel? Possibly yes.....Three young women find themselves thrown back into their childhood memories where they were always told how lucky they were.

What We're Reading: My Husband

If you’re in the mood for a wild, obsessive-compulsive, and delightfully disturbed female narrator, add Maud Ventura's debut novel 'My Husband' (translated from French by Emma Ramadan) to your Libby App ASAP.This psychological thriller follows a nameless 40-year-old Parisian wife and mother of 15 years who is consumed—completely—with keeping her husband in love with her.

What We're Reading: The Homemade God

This weekend I read 'The Homemade God,' the latest from the talented Rachel Joyce. We meet four adult siblings, shocked to learn their father plans to marry a woman he just met. Should they intervene? Why has he lost so much weight? And what exactly is in the tea he keeps drinking? Their long-established family dynamics get shaken to the core when their father dies unexpectedly, and they travel to their childhood vacation home to meet his new widow.

What We're Reading-Fox

In the mood for a dark thriller?I highly recommend 'Fox' by Joyce Carol Oates. Francis Fox is a teacher at an elite boarding school who has somehow evaded justice—grooming young teen girls while slipping from school to school under new names and identities. Now at his fourth institution, he remains unpunished and undetected. This is the second book I’ve read recently that drags Nabokov’s Humbert Humbert (Lolita) into the harsh light of day, exposing the real-life dangers behind the literary archetype.

What We're Reading: The Road to Tender Hearts

I love a dark comedy that makes me laugh hysterically in the wee hours of the morning and 'The Road to Tender Hearts' by Annie Hartnett absolutely delivered! PJ Halliday, a 60-something former lottery winner, has spent over a decade drinking away his life at the local bar where everyone adores him—until he finds himself divorced and estranged from his youngest daughter.

What We're Reading-Bridge to Terabithia

Review of 'Bridge to Terabithia' by Katherine Paterson:I said I would never read it, but here we are! I always heard that 'Bridge to Terabithia' was, and I quote, "heart-rending", "so sad", "a tear-jerker", "tragic", etc., and I'm so sentimental I decided that I couldn't' get through it! Then, a young lady asked me if it was too sad for her to read, and I had to admit I didn't know.
